Winter is a magical time to experience the outdoors, especially in a small mountain town in Colorado. Although the Gunnison Valley is partly known for it's chilly winter temps, that doesn't stop the residents and visitors alike from getting outside and enjoying their favorite winter activities. 

The snow capped North end of our valley is home to the renowned Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Located within the Gunnison National Forest, CBMR offers 121 trails and over 1,500 acres of skiable terrain. Not a downhill skier? There's plenty more snow-related activities in the Crested Butte area for an epic day of outdoor adventure such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling & ice skating at The Nordic Center.

After an exhilarating day out on the trails, you can venture to downtown Crested Butte for a memorable dining experience at one of the many eateries, like The Secret Stash, a locals & visitors favorite. Here, you'll indulge in gourmet pizzas in a funky upbeat atmosphere. 

Back down valley in the family friendly town of Gunnison, there are a plethora of activities and restaurants to enjoy. Go ice skating at Jorgensen park which offers indoor and outdoor skating. Take a walk through downtown, visit a few shops and grab lunch or dinner at The Gunnisack Cowboy Bistro Restaurant & Bar, serving up made from scratch cuisine. A must when you're in the area. 

Approximately 60 miles west of Gunnison, you can take in the spectacular sight of the Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park. A trip to The Rocky Mountains of Colorado would not be complete without an afternoon spent soaking in a natural hot spring. The closest hot spring to Gunnison is Waunita Hot Springs  one of the largest privately owned pools in the state of Colorado. Pool temps range from 95-102 degrees, depending on the time of year you visit. Located just 30 miles East of Gunnison, Waunita is known for being a family friendly destination. So make sure you pack your swimsuits!
